SESSION
HIGHLIGHTS
Regular Session Minutes
March 26, 2008
Opening Items:
Pastor Ebert opened the meeting with prayer. The agenda was approved. Pastor Rankine led us in singing two praise songs. Pastor Ebert then led us in a bible study of Acts 2:42-47. We discussed the “program” of the early church revealed in this passage and implications for PCNP’s programming.
Reports and Motions:
Finance
Elder Lovejoy pointed out that this month’s General Expense Budget Report covers the first half of the year, so one can quickly see which budget categories are above or below 50% of the year’s budgeted expenditure. Elder Lovejoy also stated that giving is keeping pace with the budget.
Nominating
Elder Fryer remarked that the committee’s work is going well, and she requested continued prayer on behalf of its important work.
Personnel
Elder Iannetta distributed minutes of the committee’s meeting of March 12, 2008.
Missions
Elder Oswald reminded us about the plans for April 13, which will be Urban Local Mission Sunday. Representatives from four of our local mission partners will be present to meet people and share about their ministries. The following week, April 20, members of PCNP will be traveling to Newark and Plainfield for an afternoon of working with our mission partners.
Membership:
Elder Dubbeling called our attention to the start of the next new members’ class on April 6 and asked us to speak with people we know who might be interested.
Student Ministries:
Elder Hannig reminded us that tomorrow night is the Youth Club finale.
Property:
Elder Bob Lesnewich described the purchase of a new computer server along with arrangements for the necessary training and support.
Clerk’s Report:
The minutes of the February 27, 2008 meeting were approved as distributed.
The baptism application for Mia Lauren Zichichi, daughter of Joe and Stephanie Zichichi, born 9/20/2007 in Summit, NJ for baptism at 9:30am service on 5/18/08 with instruction by Pastor Rankine was approved on condition that the parents will complete the new members’ class and a satisfactory elder interview.
The application for the wedding of Courtney Hess to Reagan Ian Goolcharan on 1/31/09, to be performed by Reverend Jonathan Miller, was approved.
The following membership change was approved:
G-10.0302b. (1) – Certificate of Transfer
- Gloria L. Keesee to First Presbyterian Church of West Chester, PA
With this transfer, the current active membership stands at 805.
PCUSA and Elizabeth Presbytery Items:
Pastor Ebert said a few words about last night’s presbytery meeting, which was devoted to “green” issues in the church.
Pastor & Staff Reports:
Colleen Fletcher reported that one of our mission partners, Cindy Strickler (PRMI), will be speaking at the next pastoral care meeting and will be part of the prayer ministry.
Pastor Flavin reported the following several items:
● There will be a youth ministry conference this weekend in conjunction with Liberty Corner PC.
● PCNP will be hosting a conference on Saturday, 4/19/08, for training student and adult youth ministry leaders; about 300 people are expected to attend.
● About 300 people are going on this year’s Mexico trip with plans to build 17 houses. Some of those attending are from Northern Ireland, and through that connection Amor Ministries is currently exploring the possibility of bringing its ministry model to South Africa.
● A championship unicyclist will be at PCNP one weekend next month, sharing the gospel with young people.
● Next month the confirmation classes will be coming to session.
Pastor Rankine reported that PCNP will be one of two New Jersey video simulcast locations for the Willow Creek group life conference (a small group leaders’ conference) on Oct. 17 and 18; he encouraged elders to attend.
Pastor Ebert thanked all involved for everything done to make Holy Week so successful and smoothly run. Approximately 1100 people were in attendance on Sunday. Discussions are underway for a trial of simultaneous worship in the sanctuary and ministry center, probably in October and November.
New Business:
Elder Griggs and Pastor Ebert mentioned that the annual meeting might be a good time to launch the vision statement.
Adjourn:
We prayed and adjourned at 9:30 p.m.
