"For
whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be
saved. How then shall they call on Him in whom they have
not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom
they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a
preacher? And how shall they preach except they be sent?"

African
Enterprise
A
Global Partnership Reaching Africa for Christ
| Driven
by a love for the Lord and a compassionate heart
for the people of Africa, South African evangelist
Michael Cassidy founded African Enterprise in 1961
and embarked upon a lifetime mission: To evangelize
the cities of Africa through word and deed, in partnership
with the Church. |

African
Enterprise is a Christian interdenominational, interracial
ministry of evangelism, reconciliation, leadership development,
training, relief and community development. African Enterprise
works with leaders in African churches to mobilize their
congregations in outreach to Africa's cities.
Today
African Enterprise's services are in great demand by
churches of every denomination. African Enterprise is
widely respected for the enthusiasm and effectiveness
of its evangelists and trainers, and the loving care
for people reflected in practical, community based development
projects. They will conduct prayer and evangelism outreaches
in cities with follow-up provided by the local church.
They also train leaders for the church. They have a
wide network of contacts and have leveraged that to
get involved in reconciliation and brokering peace accords
between warring factions.
The
Presbyterian Church at New Providence is privileged
to financially support African Enterprise. We currently
support Michael Cassidy, the founder and president,
Emmanuel Kopwe, the head of their Reconciliation ministry,
Cindy Easterday, missionary with AIDs infected people
and the Soweto Slum Health Clinic in Kenya. Michael
was the key-note speaker at our 1993 mission
conference and Emmanuel Kopwe attended that conference.
PCNP
views this ministry as vital to sharing the Gospel to
those who have never heard about Jesus' love and purpose
for their lives. This is demonstrated by the large portion
of the PCNP missions budget given to support AE.
Recently,
PCNP staff and leaders met with Stephen Mbango, Team
Leader and Evangelist-Kenya and Ebeneezer Kikakane-North
America African Enterprise, when they visited New Providence.
"AE
is making a real tangible difference on the African
continent. Their unswerving commmitment to Christ, their
excellent strategy for ministry and their commitment
to bettering people's lives who are struggling in poverty
all are advancing the Kingdom in powerful and life-changing
ways."

EVANGELISM
His
Last Command, Our First Command
|
| |
Evangelism
is at the heart of this ministry. With more than 30 full-time
evangelists, African Enterprise is constantly conducting
missions at the invitation of churches.

Conference

These
entail many months of preparation and training culminating
in week-long outreaches in national capitals to a few
days in smaller cities.
African-born
evangelists, from a wide spectrum of races and denominations,
have a passion to share the Gospel with the people of
Africa. Their intimate knowledge of the language and
culture enable them to minister effectively and efficiently.
In Africa's growing cities, African Enterprise missions
take on a "stratified" form-with meetings
tailored to different "strata's" of society,
reaching out to the powerful and powerless.
|
|
| In
every mission there's a strong emphasis on discipleship.
AE works closely with local churches to ensure that new
believers are properly cared for and nurtured in their
faith. |
| |
"PCNP
and AE are clearly perfect together in their respective
passion to reach people for Jesus Christ. AE has a wonderful
approach including heavy prayer and preparation for
a city and then addressing each people class (eg. government
leaders, professionals, prostitutes, etc.) with information/education
that they will want to obtain."

Reconciliation
He Has Given Us This Message
|
| |
Political,
racial and trivial conflicts foster deep and deadly hostility
among the people of Africa. African Enterprise works to
tear down the walls of hatred, build trust, and respect
through the power of the Gospel.
African
Enterprise was at the forefront of the struggle against
apartheid in South Africa and very much a part of the
process in leading South Africa away from the brink
of a bloody civil war. As a bridge builder and mediator
AE helps leaders work together or justice, reconciliation
and peace.

Leadership
Development and Training
|
| |
Management
training programs that incorporate Biblical leadership
principles and Christian values are held for business,
community, government and Church leader.
Training
through the exciting Youth Ministry program "Foxfire"
gives the young adults of Africa or North America an
opportunity for life changing experiences through evangelism.
|
|
"As
a business person I was most impressed with the AE strategic
approach to cities and classes of people. I like the
organized team effort with churches to share the gospel
while meeting real needs of people."

Relief
and Community Development
|
| |
Africa
has many needs. African Enterprise, in partnership with
the Church, undertakes and facilitates relief and community
development projects, some of which include Health Care
Clinics, Street Kids, AIDS Awareness, Slum Rehabilitation,
Widows and Orphans and Reforestation programs. Emphasis
is placed on training communities to be self-reliant and
to care for each other. |
| |
|
Cindy
Easterday's work has evolved to consider ways in
which the Church of Jesus Christ can respond in action
and truth to support community efforts to respond to
those infected and impacted by HIV/AIDS. Cindy's primary
interest is in preschool aged children impacted by the
disease and other negative social factors in their communities
and how to provide the holistic care, love and support
they need.

| Her
work involves an outreach in the church community, primarily
within the white and black areas, to inform, educate,
encourage and challenge involvement in response to the
needs faced in the impoverished communities. |

serves as God's hands on earth, and in the process, brings
His message to those most in need."

Soweto/Kayole
PRIMARY
HEALTH CARE CLINIC
Ministers Love and Hope to the Poor
|
|
|
PCNP
sponsors the Soweto/Kayote Primary Health Clinic which
ministers love and hope to the poor. The Primary Health
Care Clinic opened its doors in October 1991. The purpose
of this outpatient clinic is to demonstrate the love
of Christ by ministering to the physical and spiritual
health needs of the people dwelling in the Soweto/Kayole
slums on the outskirts of Nairobi (Capital of Kenya.)
Our church is happy to be a financial partner with the
clinic.
The
cluster of villages ranks amongst the worst slums in
the world, with as many as 150,000 people living in
1.6 square miles. It is a place where communicable diseases
run rampant amidst a lack of clean water, an abundance
of garbage, high unemployment and an overwhelming amount
of malnutrition. There are very few schools or other
facilities available to these destitute people.
|
| Families
learn about nutrition and diseases as a nurse weighs
a child. |
|
| A
great trust has been built-up between the people,
the clinic, and the Lord. |
| As
with all African Enterprise ministries, the Soweto/Kayole
Primary Health Care clinic exists as a witness to
the love of Jesus Christ. It is in this atmosphere
that clinic staff freely share the Gospel with patients,
thus meeting both their spiritual and their physical
needs. |
|
In addition to daily Bible teachings by the staff, local
pastors and invited evangelists regularly speak at weekly
meetings.
The
clinic is staffed by community nurses and two support
staff who provide immunizations, antenatal care, first-aid,
maternal and child care. In addition, many residents
are taught health education, focusing on nutrition,
family planning, sexually transmitted diseases and environmental
public health (sanitation, clean water, etc.) In the
years that the clinic has been operating many lives
have been saved physically and spiritually. The numbers
increase daily.
Words
alone cannot convey God's love when people are struggling
to survive. Even more blessed
are all who hear the word of God and put it into practice.
Luke
11:28
