"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart..."
Jeremiah 29:11-13

Mexico was amazing, humbling, powerful, exhausting ... We have experienced such a wide range of emotions and strengthened and made new friendships. God was with us. He kept us safe and protected us from the heat. I saw him through the stories people shared at our campfires, through my own families' experiences, and through the smiles and faces of the Mexican families and children we came to serve.

Building a house is hard work. As I shoveled dirt for sifting or mixed cement or stucco, I kept thinking about Jesus washing the feet of his disciples - a job usually reserved for the lowliest of servants. If Jesus had been building a house with us, I think he would have been doing the jobs nobody else wanted to do. Suddenly shoveling dirt wasn't so bad.

"Ah, Sovereign Lord," I said. "I do not know how to speak; I am only a chid"

But the Lord said to me, "Do not say, 'I am only a child.' You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you," declares the Lord." Jeremiah 1:7-8

"A relationship with God is not something added on after we complete our basic growth, it is the essential core of that growth. Take that core out, and there is no humanity at all but only a husk, the appearance but not the substance of the human."

"The life of faith is very physical. Being a Christian is very much a matter of the flesh-of space and time things. It means being thrown on the potters wheel and shaped, our entire selves, into something useful and beautiful. And when we are not useful or beautiful we are reshaped. Painful, but worth it."

Mexico was an incredible experience. Mike has always said, "Mexico is not about the building but about the relationships". Now, we understood what he meant. We left Mexico different from when we had arrived. God's loving hand has changed our hearts and he has given us memories and friendships we will treasure forever. Would we go again? Yes!!! Where God leads us - we will follow.

.

We praise God for you. Your prayers and financial support laid the foundation for this trip. We hope you will join us next year as we again travel to Mexico to help build hope.

~Thank you to Sandy Ianetta for her comments about her Mexico experience.~
