Reconciliation
and Renewal
African Enterprise
Cindy
Easterday is a PC(USA) missionary working with African Enterprise
in South Africa. Cindy is involved in HIV/AIDS and its
impacts on young children in the community context. Her
local church has established an outreach to a community in
a nearby township, developing a relationship with the local
structures and the ladies caring for orphaned and vulnerable
children at a day care center. Ongoing efforts in Cindy's
work will be to work with churches in affected communities
to better support care efforts in their local areas as well
as to link churches from other communities with resources
to those without.
The aggravation of the years of apartheid still leaves communities
separated by race with little understanding or interaction
between them, making this aspect of the work particularly
challenging as well as exciting. God has promised those
who love Him to work all things for good, so in the horror
of AIDS God promises to do good things. Reconciling communities
and sharing resources between those most separated from each
other is a hope and expectation that can only be met with
His guidance and help. As John wrote in I John 3:16:
"This is how we know what
love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we
ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. If anyone
has material possessions and sees his brother in need but
has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear
children, let us not love with words or tongue but with
actions and truth."
